Description of the attraction
Allen Forest Zoo is located in the city of Kanpur, a large industrial center in northern India. It is one of the few zoos in the country that are built right in the middle of the forest, and it is also the largest open park in Kanpur.
The initiator of the creation of Allen Forest was the botanist Sir Allen, but, unfortunately, due to bureaucratic delays, the zoo was opened only in 1971, after India gained independence.
Among the inhabitants of the zoo are jaguars, grizzly bears, antelopes, hippos, rhinos, baboons, hyenas, leopards, Asian tigers. Due to the fact that the zoological garden is located in the forest, the animals that are in it live in conditions close to the conditions of their natural habitat, for example, some monkeys and deer are released from open-air cages.
Among other things, there is a botanical garden on the territory of the park, which contains a rich collection of rare Indian plants.
There is also a veterinary hospital within the zoo, which can simultaneously receive up to 1400 animals, and not only those living in the park, but also wild ones that were injured when meeting a person.
The management of the zoo contributes in every possible way to its development and attracts large industrial enterprises to cooperation, which support Allen Forest financially. There is also strict monitoring of the implementation of the rules that have been introduced in the park. For example, it is allowed to feed animals only in specially designated places, and the use of plastic bottles and plastic bags is prohibited.
