Despite the fact that both Mallorca and Malta belong to the European resorts of the Mediterranean, they embody very different cultural and historical traditions. Mallorca inherited the hot spirits of the Spaniards, and ancient Malta inherited many cultural and religious monuments from British rule, adding them to its own ancient heritage.
If you do not go into historical details, these two resorts are very similar: here you will find a wonderful Mediterranean climate, a clear blue sea, a huge number of warm days a year and quality rest. And yet what to choose when setting off on the road?
Some Spanish and a lot of English
Spanish Mallorca today is the most perfect international in any form. The cuisine here has gradually changed, adding Catalan, Moorish, continental European and many other flavors to its Mediterranean essence. Guests come from everywhere and bring with them an insight into new cultures, fashions and ideas. Mallorca is so diverse in faces that here you will meet on the same street princes of the blood, stars of the world stage, ordinary bankers and Russian deputies, so that only national fervor, the purity of the beaches, the extraordinary beauty of nature remained untouched from Mallorca.
Malta is a small England in the middle of the Mediterranean. If you are a fan of the English language and football, then here you will find some rest for the soul. Malta has many English language schools and educational tours, as well as ecotourism, tourist business with great excursions, and monuments from the Neolithic times are just at every turn. Add the lowest crime rate here, and you will understand what distinguishes Malta from other places, including Mallorca.
Where are the best beaches?
The climate in both resorts is beautifully Mediterranean, with an abundance of sunny days, almost year-round swimming in the sea and hot summers. Winter is mild, warm, so in our understanding it cannot be called winter either. The beaches are beautiful, although they vary. Mallorca has solid gorgeous sand and absolutely amazing mountain landscapes nearby. In Malta, there are both sandy, rocky and pebble beaches. Sometimes access to sand is rather difficult, but you will not find such a variety of colors of sand anywhere - it is white, and red, and black, and amber. The entrance to the sea on the sand is shallow, like in Mallorca, and on the rocky beaches of Malta there are special ladders for swimming. However, many dive into Maltese waters directly from the cliffs.
Hotels and infrastructure
In Malta, most hotels are open year-round, but the number of rooms in the winter is greatly reduced due to renovations. So there are fewer places to stay. At the same time, they are getting cheaper, so from October to April you can relax on a more budgetary basis than in the high season. Prices, like in Mallorca, vary by type of hotel. The higher the class and the number of stars, the more expensive the accommodation. The choice is vast at both resorts. There is a large offer of five-star hotels, but with the usual three stars you will get normal living conditions.
Shopping
You cannot find professional shopping in Mallorca. Despite the presence of many shops and shopping centers that work all daylight hours, there will not be cheap prices for expensive brands, and the season of big sales in winter, so going to the sea and shopping is unlikely to be combined. On the other hand, Mallorca has what you just need to buy: locally produced pearls with a quality guarantee, interesting leather goods; local ceramics; glass products of local production; sweet "branded" pastries "; famous liqueurs.
There is nothing authentic in Malta with such a variety. As well as great shopping in general. Shops here recently began to work on Sundays, and yet not so long ago, all outlets had a part-time working week. They close quite early by Moscow standards, with the exception of souvenir shops, newsstands and pharmacy departments. Big, three to four hours, siesta, weekends, early closure - it seems that for shops in Malta, trade is not as important as something else.
About cuisine and gastronomy
An amazing mixture of European dishes and local traditions is the cuisine of Malta. Here you will be offered spaghetti seasoned with octopus ink sauce, as well as wonderful flaky Maltese pies with green peas and ricotta. From the more familiar, you can try the famous pork sausages with aromatic local wine.
Majorcan cuisine is based on traditional gastronomic values - meat, excellent quality vegetables and fish, as well as seafood. So you can eat here very densely and soundly, with taste.
