Description of the attraction

Not far from the Braga Cathedral is the Biscainhos Palace. The palace was built at the end of the 16th century and is an excellent illustration of the Baroque style that was used in the architecture of the city.

The palace, like many other mansions, has undergone changes and restorations over the years. However, it is worth noting that it was in the 18th century that the interior of the palace was very refined - the walls lined with azulejo tiles, ceilings with relief stucco moldings, paintings from the 18th century and many other details and decorations typical of the Baroque style.

Accentuates the beauty of the palace and the magnificent garden created in 1750. The garden is planted with many types of plants and flowers, as well as sculptures and baroque fountains. The garden has three levels and is surrounded by a wall with buttresses, which makes it look like a medieval fortress.

In 1963, the palace was purchased by the state after being an aristocratic residence for 300 years. And in 1978, a museum of ethnography and art was opened in the palace. Inside the palace, the interior was preserved, which helps to recreate the picture of the life of the nobility in the 17-18th century in Portugal.

The facade of the building is made in the Baroque style: granite decorations of windows and balconies, openwork iron bars. A staircase decorated with azulejo tiles leads to the second floor of the palace. This tile is also used in the decoration of the walls of the dining room.

The collection of exhibits of the palace-museum: furniture of the Baroque period, works of fine art of the 17-18 centuries, glassware, silver and Chinese porcelain. Since 1949, the palace-museum has been included in the list of monuments of national interest.

The palace is made in a very refined and restrained style. When I went inside, I had the feeling that I was in the past. Eye…
