Description of the attraction
The main architectural complex of the city is located at the intersection of the main street and the trading square - the Assumption and Entry-Jerusalem Cathedrals with a bell tower. The ensemble of cathedrals was erected in 1733 and rebuilt in 1806 by the provincial architect N. I. Metlin.
The Entry-Jerusalem Cathedral (winter) was built in 1733, its architecture goes back to the simple and majestic forms of the ancient posad church. The Assumption (summer) cathedral was built by the architect P. I. Fursov in 1825-1833 in the style of late Russian classicism. The Church of the Nativity of Christ was built in 1815 by captive French in honor of the victory over Napoleon in the Patriotic War of 1812. This is the only Baroque monument in Yuryevets.
The bell tower of the Entry-Jerusalem Cathedral (with the Church of St. George the Great Martyr in the lower tier) was also built in 1840 according to the project of the architect P. I. Furasov. 70 meters high, it is one of the highest on the Volga and serves as a symbol of the city.
