Description of the attraction
Hengistbury Head is located near the resort town of Bournemouth in the south of Great Britain.
The cape is of great interest to archaeologists, because here scientists find traces of settlements of ancient people of the Stone, Bronze, and Iron Age.
Sandy beaches attract lovers of sea bathing and provide an excellent opportunity to relax with the whole family. The gravel paths at Hengistbury Head are popular with hikers, and on windy days the promontory is an ideal spot for flying kites. The nature of the cape - plants and animals - is protected, and in the summer months people come to the cape especially to listen to the larks.
The Cape is under threat of destruction due to severe erosion. In the 19th century, erosion increased under the influence of the human factor, and a significant part of the cape was destroyed. In the 20th century, significant measures were taken to preserve the cape and strengthen the coastline, as well as to preserve the unique salt bog.
