Description of the attraction
The insignia mosque is a monument of the national cult architecture of Kazan. The mosque is located in the central part of the city, on the eastern shore of Lake Kaban. The name of the mosque is related to its location. It has two other names: “Jubilee Mosque” and “Millennium of the Adoption of Islam” Mosque. The mosque was built from 1924 to 1926, in honor of the 1000th anniversary of the adoption of Islam in the Volga region. It was built with folk funds. In 1914, engineer - architect A. Ye. Pechnikov developed a project for the construction of the Zakabannaya Mosque.
The exterior of the Zakabanny Mosque is designed in the spirit of Eastern Muslim architecture. With its appearance, the mosque reflects the development of the local national direction in architecture that took shape in Kazan in the 1920s.
The hidden mosque has one hall with a mezzanine. She has a corner setting of the minaret. At the base of the minaret there is a vestibule that leads to the rectangular two-height volume of the mosque. Before the reconstruction, there was a balcony on the left side of the prayer hall. The stairs to the balcony were on the right side of the lobby. The hall was illuminated by high windows, which had two types of shape: lancet and square. During the Soviet era, the prayer hall was divided into two floors.
Currently, there is a prayer hall on the ground floor of the mosque. On the second floor there are study rooms. The tall four-sided minaret bears an octahedral barrel, which turns into a skylight cylinder with a circular balcony. The minaret is crowned with a lancet dome with carved cornices. The architecture of the mosque traces the Art Nouveau style with Arab and Moorish motives in the decor typical of medieval architecture.
In the 1930s, the mosque was closed. In 1991, the Mosque was returned to the community of believers.
