Description of the attraction

The Cinema Actor Theater is a theater that was created in Moscow by order of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR in December 1943. It was supposed to function as a laboratory in which film actors and directors would be brought up, and the process of staging performances was a method of preparing for filming.

The theater is located in a building built in 1931-1935. The authors of the building project were the Vesnin brothers, architects. The building was used as a cultural center for political prisoners.

The first director of the Cinema Actor Theater was G. V. Aleksandrov, and its artistic director was S. I. Yutkevich. The troupe of the theater consisted of a collective of actors from the Mosfilm studio, which, under the direction of G. Roshal, has been staging small performances since 1940. In 1946 the theater opened its first season with a performance based on M. Svetlov's play "Brandenburg Gate". The production was directed by B. Babochkin.

In 1947, the play "Young Guard" based on the novel by A. Fadeev was staged. The director was S. Gerasimov. This performance served as the basis for the film of the same name, which entered the golden fund of Soviet cinema.

Many young directors who later became famous directors staged performances at the Cinema Actor Theater: E. Garin, A. Dikiy, I. Sudakov, S. Yutkevich, R. Simonov, A. Goncharov and others. A number of films that can be called outstanding have been released after being prepared on the stage.

At various times, the theater troupe consisted of: M. Bernes, B. Andreev, B. Chirkov, E. Garin, G. Vitsin, N. Rybnikov, M. Gluzsky, S. Bondarchuk, N. Kryuchkov, M. Ladynina, S. Martinson, R. Nifontova, V. Tikhonov, V. Sanaev, G. Yumatov, I. Smoktunovsky, K. Luchko, V. Serova, N. Mordyukova and many others. The artistic council of the theater consisted of the largest Soviet directors. It included M. Romm and S. Gerasimov, Yu. Raizman and I. Pyriev, G. Alexandrov and others.

Since 1992, the theater has been called the "State Theater of Cinema Actor". Since 2010, the chief director of the theater is Robert Manukyan. The theater is heading towards updating the repertoire and preserving the best traditions of the theater.
