Description of the attraction

One of the most beloved theaters in St. Petersburg is the State Drama Theater "Shelter Komedianta", which is located in the very center of the city on Sadovaya Street, house number 27. Its auditorium is designed for 200 people. The repertoire of the theater troupe includes more than 20 performances, among which there are productions of works of foreign and Russian classics.

The founder of the Shelter Komedianta theater is actor Yuri Tomoshevsky, who embodied the idea of a one-actor theater in his brainchild. The performances of prose and poetry for one actor transported the audience to the amazing atmosphere of the literary drawing rooms of St. Petersburg at the beginning of the 20th century. The theater was opened on February 19, 1987.

When the theater just announced itself in a small basement on Gogol Street (Malaya Morskaya), poetry and musical meetings and evenings with famous actors and performers of our time - Elena Kamburova, Natalia Danilova, Alla Bayanova, Igor Volkov, Tatyana Kabanova, Sergey Dreyden and many others. Very soon the cozy theater became a haven for those directors and actors who, for various reasons, could not realize their creative ideas on other stages.

Since 1995, the theater has been headed by director Viktor Minkov. With the support and assistance of well-known cultural figures of St. Petersburg, in 1997, the Shelter Komedianta Theater found a permanent home in a building at 27 Sadovaya Street. From that moment, the Shelter Komedianta began the life of a full-fledged repertoire theater.

Thirteen years later, V. Minkov introduced an innovative idea to the work of the theater, and "Shelter of the Comedian" became the first guest theater in the Russian Federation without a permanent troupe. A symbiosis of Western contract and Russian repertoire theaters is being born. The theater operates as a state enterprise. The repertoire is completely preserved, but a new team comes to each new project, in which everyone - actors, director, artists - work under a contract. Thanks to this, viewers had a unique opportunity to see leading Russian actors on the same stage in performances staged by the best directors of the country.

To date, about 100 performances have been performed in the theater. The annual plan is at least 4 premieres. The performances of the Shelter Komedianta Theater are very popular with audiences and have repeatedly been awarded prestigious prizes at festivals both in Russia and abroad.

In addition, the Shelter Komedianta Theater often acts as an organizer of international projects. So, in 2005, with the support of the theater, the I International Theater Festival "Master's Disciples" was held. Its goal was to present the best works of pupils of renowned Russian directors. It was devoted mainly to the works of the students of the workshop of P. N. Fomenko. The following year, there were screenings of works by graduates of K. M. Ginkas in 2007 - with the works of M. A. Zakharov, and in 2008 - performances by students of the workshop of G. M. Kozlov. At the 2009 festival, the works of the leading theater schools of St. Petersburg and Moscow were presented. At the 2010 Festival, works of theater schools in Krakow, Bratislava, Vilnius, Helsinki and St. Petersburg were shown.

Another successful project of the Comedian's Shelter is the Petersburg Theater Season, which is a major cultural and political event. This project is not commercial. It is supervised by V. Matvienko and financed by the city government. The main task of the “St. Petersburg Theater Season” is to acquaint the European audience with the successes of the theatrical life of St. Petersburg. The first theater season began in November 2007 in Prague. He caused a wide public response, becoming a kind of bridge between the theaters of the Czech Republic and Russia. In December 2008, it was continued in Berlin. In 2009, the St. Petersburg Theater Season was held in Finland, in 2010 - in Israel, in 2011 - in Italy.

The Priyut Komedianta Theater, together with the Committee for Culture and independent theater critics Zh. Zaretskaya and A. Pronin, established the “PRORIV” Petersburg Theater Prize for Young People. It is awarded to actors, directors, artists, theater managers under 35 years of age who have reached serious heights in the field of dramatic art.
