Description of the attraction

On one of the streets of Barcelona, there is a unique building of the outstanding Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi - Palais Guell. The palace project was commissioned by the prominent industrialist Eusebio Guell, and became one of the first major works of the novice architect. The construction of the palace lasted from 1886 to 1990 - it was then that the last finishing works were completed. Despite this, the inscription "1888" is marked on the pediment of the house.

Initially, the young architect was faced with a rather difficult task - he had to place a luxurious building on a very small plot of land - only 18 by 22 meters. And the master perfectly coped with the task, creating a house that was replete with amazingly beautiful details, and in which several architectural styles and original author's solutions were intricately intertwined.

The building of the palace is richly decorated with numerous forged elements that give it grace, the facade of the building is faced with marble slabs, which, on the contrary, adds massiveness and power to it. Much attention was paid by the architect to the design of ventilation shafts, and the multiple ventilation pipes and chimneys located on the roof represent whole works of art - made in the form of cones of different textures, decorated with multi-colored gravel. The facade of the building is decorated with the coat of arms of Catalonia, forged according to the project of Gaudí.

The main entrance is a parabolic arch, decorated with intricate wrought iron elements, through which carriages passed through.

The inner chambers of the palace amaze with splendor and luxury. The main premises of the palace is the reception hall, the base of which is only 9 by 9 meters, and the height is 17.5 meters. The hall has a domed ceiling with many openings behind which lanterns hung from the outside, which were lit at night, giving the impression of a starry sky.

Guided tours are currently held in the palace. Palais Guell is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
