Description of the attraction
Inkerman Vintage Wine Factory was founded on February 1, 1961. The plant was built on the basis of construction limestone workings in a closed way. The stone mined in these quarries was used to rebuild the buildings of Sevastopol destroyed during the Second World War. After the limestone mining was stopped, underground galleries up to 12 m high and 10-12 m wide, located at a depth of 5 to 30 m from the earth's surface, passed into the possession of the plant. Special barrels were installed in the galleries and the first brands of wines were laid for aging: "Cabernet Kachinskoe", "Aligote Zolotaya Balka", "White Crimean Port", "Red Crimean Port" and others. Rkatsiteli Inkermanskoe wine became the first brand of the factory.
The specialists who work at the Inkerman plant have completed an internship at the Massandra winery and support the old traditions of wine making by aging in oak barrels for six months to five years.
The specialists of the plant are constantly conducting scientific research to improve the technology of making wines, studying the raw material base, creating new brands of wine. In 1990, the Inkerman plant was recognized as one of the best wineries in the world. Throughout the history of its existence, the plant's products have won sixteen grand prix cups, one hundred thirty-five gold, about sixty silver and twelve bronze medals at international competitions and exhibitions.
