Description of the attraction
Are there any architectural monuments that make you smile? Saratov is one of the few cities that can boast of such an asset. Saratov pride is located on Moskovskaya Street opposite the Main Post Office.
In 1887, in the central part of the city, the owners of the mirror factory P. P. Borisov-Morozov and N. I. Sedov built a factory building. But in 1913, the factory of mirrors and facets, releasing in a huge selection (as they said in their advertising) mirrors of all kinds of sizes, unexpectedly for everyone, declares its insolvency. In a strange way, bankrupt merchants went abroad after the sale of their property.
In 1914, a car garage was located in the factory building, the owner of which was S. I. Sokolov and his friend, a motorist with commercial abilities, Z. I. Ivanov. In 1915, during the First World War, automobile service was declared and, following his transport, Sokolov himself was mobilized to the front. The capital accumulated in a short period of time was donated to the reconstruction of the garage and the sculptural decoration of the facade of the building.
The idea of technical progress was brought to life by the students of the Bogolyubov Art School N. Khlestova and S. Reztsova. The work of young artists was so witty and original that only one place can serve as the source of the idea - Tsarskoe Selo, the facade of the imperial garage. The triangular top of the facade, beaten like a slope of the pavement, a car rushing at speed, escaping with one wheel from the plane of the wall, clouds of exhaust gases and dust, blinding beams of headlights - all this could only be thought of by a big fan of fast driving ZI Ivanov. The sculptors did not forget the god of trade - Mercury, hovering over the car, and the cheerful angels on the ledges of the facade.
The upper part of the facade of the house has remained untouched by time, the front part (the exit of cars) can be traced in the windows of the building closed with a horizontal rail.
