Description of the attraction
A few kilometers from the town of Mellieha, on the opposite side of the island, there is the entertainment village of the sailor Popeye, the hero of old American cartoons. This amusement park, in fact, is already unnecessary scenery for the film by Robert Altman about the sailor Popai, which was filmed here in 1979-1980. The filmmakers left and the set was left to the enterprising Maltese who transformed it into a theme park.
The entrance to the territory of the village called Sweethaven is paid. At the entrance, guests are greeted by animators and, if there are few visitors in the park, they do not let go of their prey for a minute, forcing them to participate in various attractions. It offers about 20 cabins, several slides for toddlers, a beach, swimming pools, a children's railway and much more. There is a photo studio in the park where you can take photographs as a souvenir. All houses in the village are built of Canadian sturdy wood. To prevent the buildings from being washed away during one of the storms, the authorities of Malta ordered the construction of a protective pier in the bay, which has repeatedly saved the theme park from destruction.
The most popular attraction among tourists is an attraction that does not belong to the fictional world of Popeye the sailor. This is the Santa Claus Toy Factory, which operates all year round, regardless of the season. Numerous elves tirelessly make toys by hand, and Santa Claus, in a fur coat and beard, receives visitors in the back room, listens to their wishes and takes pictures with the kids and their parents.
On sunny days, you can take a yacht cruise directly from the village. The duration of the excursion is 20 minutes.
