Description of the attraction
Dendrological park "Lazdukalns", located in the town of Ogre, is better known to everyone under the simple name Shpakovsky Park. Many visitors consider this park one of the most beautiful and picturesque parks in Latvia, and Ogre residents love to relax here and spend their free time.
Park "Lazdukalns" was created at the beginning of the XX century. At that time, the park belonged to the Marinehouse estate. After the First World War, the park was in great desolation. For a long time, no one looked after him. Inhabitants of Ogre Benita and Janis Shpakovskiy together with their friends actually recreated the park. Over the years, the Shpakovskys have managed to create a place of extraordinary richness and beauty of flora. In 1975, the "druids", as the Shpakovskys are often called in Ogre, began to arrange a park. Its area is 8.5 hectares. Currently, the park has over 7000 plantings and 412 different types of trees, ornamental shrubs and other plants. There are a lot of cozy wonderful corners here: a picturesque pond with lilies, a beautiful island of Love, enchanting walking paths.
At the entrance to the park there is a huge decorative stone made of Devonian shell rock with the inscription “Lazdukalns Nature Park”. This is a gift from Ogres Buplastmasa.
On an elevation in Shpakovsky's park, a staircase was built, consisting of 100 steps, at the end of which there is a pond with lilies. These beautiful spots are extremely popular with honeymooners. In the park, you can walk along the bog path, which is laid through the park in the form of bridges, and has a length of 70 meters. And there is also an observation tower. Climbing on it, you can admire a beautiful view of the Daugava River.
To decorate the park, Janis Shpakovsky asked to allocate sculptures at the Academy of Arts. So in the park you can see the busts of the writer Rudolf Blaumanis, the national poet Janis Rainis.
Visitors to the park assure that there are amazing places in it that have a special energy and healing power. And they also say that if a beloved woman left a man, it is enough to visit this magical park, sit on its quiet meadows, walk along the paths, and the lady who has left the admirer will suddenly realize that her decision to leave was wrong, she will become very sad and decides to return.
It is known that on the territory of Shpakovsky Park there was a sanctuary long ago, which was mentioned in the Chronicle of Indrik. Later, people have visited this place for centuries for the sake of healing from various diseases, and in the hope of the return of loved ones.
The Shpakovsky pensioners have absolutely extraordinary stories about every tree, hillock, mound, pebble. For example, before the start of the First World War, a glazed gazebo was installed here. Currently, according to the healers, endless streams of positive energy have indeed been recorded in the park. However, what it is, and how it can be explained, no one knows. But if you are abandoned or rejected by someone, go to this beautiful park, walk along its magical paths, and who knows, maybe everything will work out for you and everything will be fine.
Shpakovsky Park is an amazing place for walking, having a pleasant pastime and resting from everyday problems and worries.

I would like to learn more about exactly how and when the Shpakovsky pensioners managed to build a wonderful observation tower, a magical beauty of a reservoir and a staircase comparable to the Potemkinskaya in Odessa and the temple in Helsinki?
