Description of the attraction

Bacho Kiro Cave is one of the most visited Bulgarian caves. It is located in the vicinity of the town of Dryanovo, in close proximity to the monastery of St. Michael the Archangel. The natural cave is located in a sheer limestone cliff, 335 meters above sea level.

As a result of scientific research, it was discovered that people lived here in prehistoric times. Archaeologists have found the remains of dwellings, tools, hearths and tools. During the Ottoman yoke, numerous beliefs were associated with this cave, which claimed that evil spirits were found here and dark forces were rampaging. The cave became the first in Bulgaria adapted for tourist routes, it was landscaped in 1937, and since 1940 it bears the name of the national Bulgarian hero-revolutionary Bacho Kiro - a poet, traveler and teacher who took part in the April Uprising in 1876. In 1962, the Bacho Kiro cave was included in the list of hundreds of national Bulgarian tourist sites.

Experienced guides lead excursions inside the cave. There are two routes available for tourists. One of them, 700 meters long, takes about 70 minutes, the second is twice as short - 350 meters and about half an hour. The long route is only organized for groups of more than fifteen people. The Bacho Kiro Cave is an intricate labyrinth of galleries and their deviations, which is almost three and a half thousand meters long.

Cave rivers have formed halls and galleries for thousands of years, and stalactons, stalagmites and stalactites have acquired bizarre shapes. In the Bacho Kiro cave, special lighting has been created on tourist routes. It helps to effectively decorate cave rock formations, the most interesting of which are the Elephant, Medusa, Stone Flower, Lonely Stalacton. Also recommended for visiting are the halls - Reception, Concert and Rainy.

In addition, there are hiking and cycling trails in the area of the cave, and rock climbing is possible.
