Description of the attraction
The Museum of the History of the Resort City of Sochi is one of the oldest cultural and educational institutions and the main museum of local lore in the city of Sochi. The museum was founded in July 1920 as the Sochi Museum of Local Lore. The building of the museum was built in 1936 in the neoclassical style and reflects the culture and originality of urban planning of that time.
To date, the Museum of the History of the resort city of Sochi has a stationary exposition reflecting the history of the city of Sochi and the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus, from ancient times to the present. The exposition is located in 14 rooms. It houses over four thousand unique exhibits, including objects of culture, everyday life and ethnography of the multinational population of the region, archaeological finds, various documents and photographs. A separate section is devoted to the history of the city as a resort and the topic "Sochi is the capital of Russian resorts."
In the hall "Archaeological Monuments of the Sochi Region of Sochi" you can see rare exhibits from the Ancient Stone Age and the Middle Ages. Also presented are military equipment, ancient Caucasian firearms and edged weapons, clothes, kitchen utensils, everything that reflects the history and life of the Circassians - the indigenous population of these places.
The exposition "Natural recreational resources of the Sochi region" created an integral and figurative picture of the local flora and fauna. In the "Nature of the Western Caucasus" hall, visitors can get acquainted with the diversity of flora and fauna. There is a high-mountainous zone, coniferous and mixed forests, alpine and subalpine meadows at all heights of the Caucasus. Picturesque dioramas show various kinds of animals.
