Those who intend to use car parks should be aware that improper parking in Austria is punishable by a fine of 36 euros. It is worth considering that Austria is equipped with toll roads, to move along which you need to purchase a vignette (travel without it will cost 120 euros), the cost of which for a car up to 3.5 tons is 8, 80 euros / 10 days or 25, 70 euros / 2 months … Travel on A9, A10, A11, S16 requires a payment of 5, 50-11 euros.
Tourists will not be disappointed: the road surface in Austria is excellent, the traffic flow is quite calm, and there are practically no traffic jams.
Features of parking in Austria
Parking in Austria is possible wherever there are no road markings and signs prohibiting it. You cannot park on a street in the center of Austrian cities, and a blue lane along the road will indicate paid or limited parking.
For those who need to leave their car in the parking lot for a long time, there are P + R parking lots (3 euros / day, 12 euros / week). Parkschein parking tickets can be purchased at Tabaktrafik stores (prices: 1 euro / half hour, 2 euro / 60 minutes, 3 euro / 1.5 hours).
Rented cars usually have timers that are used in parking lots, but if your car does not have one (look in the glove compartment), you can take a regular sheet of paper and write on it with a pen the time of entering the parking lot, attaching it to the windshield, to the upper left corner.
Parking in Austrian cities
Vienna offers its guests to park their cars at the Seilerstatten Garage (parking at this 60-seat parking lot will cost 4 euros / 1 hour), Weihburggasse (the cost of each of 149 parking spaces is 4, 80 euros / 1 hour, 48 euros / 24 hours and 192 € / week), P + R Ottakring (each of 720 parking spaces costs € 3, 40 / day, € 17, 10 / week, € 63, 60 / month), Karntnerringgarage (390 parking spaces available, for which the following prices apply: 1 euro / half hour, 2, 50 euro / 60 minutes, 20 euro / day, 8 euro / night parking from 18:00 to 03:00). In addition, in the Austrian capital, it will be possible to leave the car for a couple of hours at one of the free parking lots in areas 1-9 and 20 from 09:00 to 22:00; up to 3 hours - in areas 12, 14-17 from 09:00 to 19:00; for 2 hours near Stadthalle on weekdays from 09:00 to 22:00, holidays and weekends from 18:00 to 22:00.
In Salzburg, parking is provided for Rot-Creuz-Parkplatz (each of the 95 parking spaces is paid at 2, 20 euros / hour, 4 euros / 2 hours, 18, 90 euros / all day), Parkgarage Linzer Gasse (tariffs for 400- local parking: 2, 20 euros / 1 hour and 17, 60 euros / day), Altstadtgarage A (designed for 618 cars; a 10-minute stop will cost 0, 40 euros, parking for half an hour - 1, 20 euros, 1 hours - at 2, 40 euros, 4 hours - at 9, 60 euros, all day - at 22 euros). In the Limited Parking Zones in Salzburg, cars can be parked on Saturdays from 9 am to 4 pm free of charge for up to 3 hours.
Graz has the Operngarage (prices for a 411-seat parking lot: 4 euros / 1 hour, 40 euros / all day, 70-189 euros / month), Steirerhof (rates for an 80-seat parking lot: 3, 70 euros / 1 hour and 37 euros / all day), Burgring (every hour of parking at this 360-seat parking lot costs car owners 4 euros), Pfauengarten (816-seat parking offers its customers to leave a car for 1 hour for 3, 40 euros), Griesgasse (74- local parking, car owners leave their cars for 2, 50 euros / hour; a whole day of rent costs 17, 50 euros).
Innsbruck has a WK-Tiefgarage (you can park in any of the 48 parking spaces for free for half an hour, for 1, 20 euros / the next 30 minutes, for 16, 80 euros / day and for 5 euros / from 7 pm to 7 am), Landhausplatz (350 spaces are provided for parking: rates: 1 hour - 2, 60 euros, additional 30 minutes - 1, 30 euros, all day - 18 euros; on Saturday-Sunday from 19:00 to 07:00 the car can be left, paying 6 euros for parking), Sparkassen-Hortnagl (310 parking spaces are allocated; every half hour is paid for 1.30 euros, and a whole day of parking will cost 18 euros), Tourist Center (parking is provided for car owners with a capacity of 406 spaces; prices: 2, 60 euros / 1 hour, 1, 30 euros / the next half hour, 20 euros / all day).
Those who decide to relax in Linz should take a closer look at Garage Pfarrplatz (prices for a 244-seat parking lot: 1, 30 euros / 30 minutes, 2, 60 euros / 1 hour, 20, 80 euros / 24 hours, 5, 20 euros / from 18:00 until 06:00), Elisabeth Garage (equipped with 240 parking spaces; prices: 1, 20 euros / half an hour, 2, 40 euros / 1 hour, 3, 40 euros / 90 minutes, 4, 40 euros / 2 hours, 14, 60/8 hours, 15 euros / day, 3, 20 euros / night), Garage Bahnhof - Wissensturm Linz (1 of 250 parking spaces costs 1, 90 euros / 1 hour, 15, 20 euros / 24 hours, 42 euros / week) and other parking lots.
Car rental in Austria
To rent a car (“autovermietung” in German), the traveler will need an international driver's license, issued at least 1 year ago, and a credit card (not all rental companies accept a debit card). It is important to check that the rental price (approximate prices: Ford Fiesta - 80 euros / day, Fiat Punto - 65 euros / day, VW Polo - 90 euros / day) includes insurance, including 3rd party liability (liability to 3 persons), Theft Waiver (protection against theft) and CDW (insurance package, like CASCO with a franchise).
Useful information:
- the cost of 1 liter of gasoline - 1, 13-1, 28 euros;
- in Austrian cities, you can drive at a speed of 50 km / h, and outside them - 100 km / h;
- you need to turn on the dipped beam only at night and in conditions of poor visibility.
