Scandinavia is a historical and cultural region located on the peninsula of the same name and in the north of the Old World. Scandinavia includes Norway, Sweden and Denmark. These states are rich in natural attractions and the picturesque waterfalls of Scandinavia bring special joy to fans of ecotourism.
In the land of the ancient Vikings
Among all the Scandinavian countries, Norway is the undisputed record holder for the number of natural beauties and masterpieces. And of all the waterfalls in Scandinavia, it is the Norwegian ones that are the most memorable and grandiose:
- Wettisfossen falls from a height of 275 meters and is located in the Utladalen Valley, the deepest in Norway. There is a pedestrian path along the valley that crosses the Utla River in four places and ends near the waterfall.
- Not far from the highway connecting Bergen and Oslo, there is the beautiful Wöringfossen waterfall. A powerful stream rushes down from a height of 182 meters.
- Winnufossen is an absolute record holder not only among the waterfalls of Scandinavia, but throughout Europe. Its jets fly from 865 meters and Winnufossen closes the list of the six highest on the planet. The natural wonder is located east of the village of Sunndalsora in Romsdal County.
- Langfossen is easily accessible with your rental car. The E134 highway passes by the waterfall. The 600-meter height of Lagfossen impresses tourists, and the width of its cascades makes this waterfall one of the most spectacular and beautiful in the world.
- The Stigfossen is no less delighted, falling from a height of 239 meters next to the famous Troll Staircase.
An amazing performance unfolds in front of visitors to the Kjösfossen waterfall in the municipality of Aurland in Sogn og Fjordane. During the summer tourist season, Norwegian ballet actresses in Huldra costumes dance against the backdrop of rumbling water, symbolizing unity with nature. The mythical characters of Scandinavian folklore appear next to the Flomm railway station, which leads to the legendary waterfall of Scandinavia.
In the kingdom of Santa
The Swedes say that the most impressive waterfall in their homeland looks coolest … in winter. When Santa Claus collects gifts and goes on a long journey, and the air temperature drops to -20 ° C and below, the Tennforsen waterfall freezes and turns into the creation of the great sculptor, whose name is nature. Tennforsen is located near the town of Åre, and next to it they organize a snow sculpture park every year.
In the rest of the year, the largest Swedish waterfall pleases the tourist's eye no less. It is especially full-flowing during a flood in the second half of May, but on other days, very impressive views of a powerful 32-meter high stream open from the observation deck.
