Among the modern masterpieces of architecture, the Jantar Mantar, the world's largest observatory built of stone, is of interest. It contains astronomical instruments characterized by incredible accuracy, any guest of Jaipur can get acquainted with them.
The climax of the journey through the "Golden Triangle of India" is acquaintance with Agra, known, first of all, for the unique mausoleum of the Taj Mahal. But experienced guides say that the city has other wonderful places, monuments of Indian history and culture. The city has retained its medieval appearance, old buildings erected in the Mughal era, narrow streets, many jewelry and souvenir shops.
Taj Mahal
The Pearl of Agra is the Taj Mahal, a marble work of art embellished with lines from the Koran. 22 domes located above the gates of this unearthly mausoleum give a hint as to how many years the construction lasted. It is not only the appearance of the mausoleum that is striking, but also the rich interior interiors decorated with precious and semi-precious stones.
The Indians also consider the Little Taj, the tomb for the parents of the beloved wife of the emperor, to be no less beautiful. The building is small in size, but surprises with the sophistication of the interior decoration, mosaics laid out of gems, and openwork marble panels.
Agra has its own fortress, erected in 1565, today it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The structure resembles a crescent in shape. In addition to ornamental stone, marble was used in the decoration. It is surrounded by a double battlement along the perimeter.
