This Crimean resort has a long history, many people left traces of their stay on the lands of Feodosia - the Romans and Greeks, Genoese and Ottomans. While resting in the city, it is imperative to include in the program acquaintance with business cards, among which the following objects stand out: the Kafa fortress; the tower of St. Constantine, built during the reign of the Genoese; dacha Stamboli.

The Genoese fortress, or rather, its surviving part, is located on the steep shore of the Feodosiya Gulf. The place was chosen wisely, it made it possible to see from afar for what purposes the ship was approaching the settlement, and in time to take measures to repel the attack. Historians call this citadel one of the largest in Europe.

The fortress was erected under the Genoese due to the fact that the city was very popular - there was a large slave trade market here, there were many rich palaces. The fortress consisted, in fact, of a citadel, which housed important city objects - the treasury, the court, the consular palace, and outbuildings. The buildings were surrounded by a wall, the length of which was about five kilometers. About 30 observation towers were installed along the perimeter of the wall, some of them have survived.

Dacha Stamboli is what is recommended to visit in Feodosia on your own. The construction of this architectural masterpiece began at the beginning of the last century by order of a local manufacturer. He so wanted to stand out from the company of his wealthy friends and colleagues that the Moorish style was chosen for the building. A chic park is laid out around the house and a fountain is organized. Naturally, the park has changed a lot over the century, but many of the planted trees still adorn this place today.

Interesting places of the resort

The city has preserved many churches belonging to various confessions. Therefore, special excursions are organized that acquaint tourists with history, important dates and events in the life of certain Orthodox churches, Armenian churches, and monastic complexes.

The oldest architectural monument among religious buildings is the Vvedensky (Orthodox) temple. Before it appeared, a Greek church was located in these territories; its construction dates back to the 7th-9th centuries.

Another interesting place of worship associated with legends and myths is the Toplovskaya monastery, consecrated in honor of St. Paraskeva. The monastic complex is active, its peculiarity is that there is a holy spring on the territory, it is believed that its water is healing.

Temples and monasteries are located not only within the city limits, but also outside of it, so a walking or sightseeing bus tour of the holy places of Feodosia is possible.

Treasures of historical and cultural artifacts

The museums of Feodosia are a special world, with the help of exhibits telling about a particular period in the life of the city and the peninsula, revealing archaeological secrets, introducing the life of great people who rested here, lived, worked.

The Feodosia Museum of Antiquities by the time of its creation belongs to the oldest European institutions of this kind. The local Museum of Money has a huge collection of coins, banknotes, bonds found in the local territories. The exhibits tell about distant countries and travelers who have come here. You can see coins that belong to the ancient period, the time of the existence of the Golden Horde, the Bosporus kingdom. Other artifacts associated with these ancient states can be seen in the Museum of Antiquities. They were found during excavations at the site of ancient burials of the Huns, Khazars and Polovtsians.

The world famous marine painter I. Aivazovsky is inextricably linked with Feodosia. The picture gallery, which bears the name of the great painter, contains a large collection of his works. Vera Mukhina spent her childhood in this city, later becoming an architect, author of the famous monument "Worker and Collective Farm Woman". There is a memorial museum in Feodosia that tells about V. Mukhina's childhood and demonstrates her work.

A visit to the Museum of Alexander Grin, the author of the stories "Running on the Waves" and "Scarlet Sails", causes a special delight. Part of the museum is memorial, it demonstrates the life of the writer, his study, the second reflects the events described in his works. The halls of the exposition bear beautiful names, such as "Wandering Cabin" or "Clipper".

Many other representatives of culture, writers, artists, musicians, who have left their mark on history, are also associated with Feodosia. You can visit on your own or order a tour of the Tsvetaev sisters' museum or the Konstantin Paustovsky museum.
