Since the main attraction of this beautiful Italian city is the canals, which are much more numerous in the city than streets and squares.
Meeting with the city-monument
Any visitor to Venice either quietly begins to hate it from the first second or falls in love with the city once and for all. The first category of tourists remembers the gray faceless gloomy walls of palaces and buildings, the not very pleasant smell of sea mud and stagnant water.
The second category of travelers is more optimistic and romantic, a city full of secrets and secrets, mysterious gondoliers, romantic bridges and a distant blue sky opens before them. However, they do not forget that the center of Venice, which is the oldest part of it, is included in the World Heritage List.
Walking through the districts of Venice
Each guest is surprised by the location of the city, it is spread over the mainland and coastal islands, of which there are more than 180. From an administrative point of view, there are six districts, tourists should pay attention to three of them:
- the Lido area along the coastline;
- the area of Mestre, the mainland of the city;
- Venice - Burano - Murano is the main tourist attraction.
In the historical part, the world famous sights of Venice are concentrated, including the Cathedral of San Marco, located on the square of the same name. The second most beautiful religious building is the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore, the author of the cathedral's project was the brilliant Italian architect Andrea Palladio.
Less interesting for tourists is the area located in the north of Venice, Cannaregio, since it is considered a sleeping area. If not for one "but" - there is a beautiful railway station with a long history. Therefore, tourists who come to the city by trains immediately find themselves in an old-old fairy tale. There is a temple here, where the great Italian artist Tintoretto came to services, now it contains two canvases of the great painter, his remains are buried.
Castello is considered to be the largest historical area in Venice, it got its name from the castle built by the ancient Romans. The castle, alas, has not survived; an elegant temple was erected in its place. In this area you can visit the Arsenal - the place where the famous Venetian galleys were born. There are also many parks and gardens in the area, so Venice can open up from a completely different side.
It is difficult to answer the question of what to visit in Venice on your own, and for what events to invite a guide, because it all depends on what the tourist wants - specific information, facts or replenishment of emotions, impressions.
