The administrative center of the Bryansk region bears the honorary title of the City of Military Glory. Its history began many centuries ago and for the first time under the name Debryansk it was mentioned in the Ipatiev Chronicle of 1146. Bryansk is located on the Central Russian Upland on both banks of the Desna River. Despite the solid status of the regional center, the city cannot boast of a comfortable and beautiful embankment - in Bryansk it was built in a hurry for the 1000th anniversary of the city and has never been renovated since 1985.

Divided by the Gum

The city stands on the river and the Desna divides it into four districts connected by bridges. From a geographic point of view, Bryansk is ideally located - its residents could actively relax by the water if the banks of the Desna were equipped.

The embankment of Bryansk is now in a depressing state, and the lack of funds for repairs in the city budget has become the reason for a company announced in the city to raise money for its reconstruction.

Two dozen kilometers

The length of the Desna River within the city limits of Bryansk is almost twenty kilometers, each of which could turn into walking pedestrian zones, bike paths and favorite places of recreation for the townspeople. In the meantime, the most comfortable section of the Bryansk embankment can be considered the five-kilometer Kalinin Street, which stretches along the Desna.

Previously, this street was called Moskovskaya, and then it was called the III International. It runs along the right river bank from the southwest to the northeast from Moskovsky Prospect to Naberezhnaya Square. Kalinina Street along the embankment of Bryansk is one of the most important city transport arteries: buses and trolleybuses follow more than a dozen routes. Organizations and architectural monuments significant for the life of the city located on Kalinin Street:

  • The house of the merchant Vyazmitin and the Myasnye Ryady quarter were built in the second half of the 19th century.
  • City estate with an outbuilding and a storage shed.
  • An architectural monument, the building of the telegraph station, where the first telegraph in Bryansk was located.
  • Children's art school.
  • The military commandant's office and barracks buildings of the Bryansk garrison and the building of the military commissariat.

The street unites all parts of the old city, follows the bends of the river and the best views of it open up from the opposite left bank of the Desna.
