Traveling to Kamchatka is quite expensive, but incredibly interesting. For independent travel, it is best to choose spring and summer, since winter is a time for real extreme lovers.
What you need to know
The price of air travel will largely depend on the chosen travel time. That is why tickets must be booked in advance, since the difference can reach forty thousand. But, again, everything depends on the season. Thus, a flight in September will cost significantly less than in July.
On the road, you need to prepare the following "set":
- Clothing should be lightweight yet durable and moisture-proof. Prolonged torrential rains are not uncommon in Kamchatka in summer. During a winter visit, you need to “stock up” on warm pants and a good down jacket, not forgetting about high-quality thermal underwear.
- Shoes should be durable, moisture resistant and lightweight. The ideal is hiking boots.
- A tent and sleeping bags can be rented in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The same applies to equipment for climbing, if you suddenly want to conquer the volcano.
- Do not forget about the standard travel kit - dry fuel, matches and salt.
- GPS navigator. The necessary software must be downloaded while still on the mainland. There is no internet on the peninsula.
- Several spare batteries for phone and navigator.
- Credit cards are practically not accepted anywhere in Kamchatka, and therefore there must be "live" cash on hand.
What Kamchatka vacation offers
Spring starts here with skiing and snowmobiling. It is best to go to the north of the peninsula this time of year.
Summer in Kamchatka also includes part of September. This season of the year gives you the opportunity to admire the original beauty of nature.
But the widest range of entertainment, probably, is offered by winter. This includes dog sledding expeditions, and freeride on the slopes of a volcano, and winter fishing on mountain rivers, and much more.
It is also better to take care of booking a hotel room or a room / apartment in the private sector in advance.
Useful travel tips
Kamchatka is a wild land, and therefore, in order to survive and keep only pleasant impressions, you must remember the advice of "seasoned" travelers:
- Do not disturb the wild inhabitants of the region. The fauna of the region can and even should be observed, but from afar.
- Kamchatka water is one of the cleanest in the world. Water from lakes and rivers can be drunk without fear.
- If the route passes through the territory of a natural park, be sure to register with the Kamchatka Directorate of Natural Parks.
- Best of all, if the trip is a group. Alone, it is very easy to go missing here.
