The main heraldic sign of the modern capital of Bashkortostan is based on the historical symbol. On the other hand, the coat of arms of Ufa has a specific author, the sketch was developed by the famous Bashkir artist Salavat Gilyazetdinov.

Description of the Ufa coat of arms

The color photo clearly demonstrates that the author chose natural colors to depict the heraldic symbol, and some of them are quite often used in world heraldry, while scientists and artists rarely turn to others. Among the beloved by heraldists of all countries are silver and emerald colors, brown is one of the rather rarely used tones.

The composition of the coat of arms of Ufa is quite simple, it consists of several elements:

  • a shield of a noble silver color with a green base and brown marten;
  • a wreath of oak branches with golden leaves and acorns;
  • gold ribbon with the inscription "1574" - the date of the foundation of the city.

Each of the elements and selected colors of the image has its own symbolic meaning.

Emblem symbolism

The choice of a silver color for the main symbol of the Bashkir capital is explained by the rules of world heraldry, it symbolizes the nobility of thoughts, deeds, actions, as well as purity and faith. Green is associated with concepts such as tranquility, freedom, peace, abundance.

The marten is depicted in the so-called free run position, with its front legs not touching the ground. The head is raised, the neck is gracefully arched. Her figure exudes confidence and calmness. In a general sense, the expensive-looking fur of this animal personified wealth, dignity. Secondly, the animal has long been an important object of the trade, contributed to the development of these territories, along with the sable. One of the old books mentions that the marten is found in different places, but it is most common in the vicinity of Ufa. It is also known that when the Russian tsar negotiated a yasak (tax) from the Bashkirs, it was about the marten that lived on these lands.

History of the coat of arms of Ufa

Scientists date the appearance of the symbol of the city to 1740, and then already it depicted a marten in natural color, running on green earth (grass). The official approval took place in 1782.

There is a version that the beautiful animal "migrated" to the official symbol from the territorial emblem, the so-called "Seal of Yugorskaya" in 1577. The Ugra land united both the Urals and the Trans-Ural territories.
