Acquaintance with the map will allow you to see that territorially the districts of Vilnius divide the Lithuanian capital into many parts - the historical parts of the city, its suburbs and areas of new buildings. The districts of Vilnius are named Justiniskes, Zverinas, Karoliniskes, Antakalnis, Rasos, Pashilaichiai, Syanamestis, Zhirmunai, Pilaite, Vilkpede and others. There are 21 of them in total.
Description and attractions of the main areas
- Syanamestis (Old Town): interesting by the Castle Hill (the climb to it is carried out by the funicular), the Gediminas Tower (it is recommended to take a photo from the observation deck, and in the museum open here - admire samples of weapons and armor, models of castles and various archaeological finds), the Cathedral Stanislaus (cathedral - repository of frescoes, paintings of the 16-19 centuries and other works of art; going down to the ground floor, guests will get to the Museum of History), the Palace of the Great Lithuanian Dukes (2 buildings of the National Museum are open for visiting), the Church of St. Anne (the main facade - a reflection of Eastern European Gothic architecture).
- Antakalnis: travelers will be able to go to inspect the Slushkov Palace (interior decoration is represented by stucco, murals and Italian marble) and the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul (it has 9 altars, despite its rather simple appearance, inside the church is decorated with numerous delightful stucco works). Those who wish can visit the Antakalnis cemetery, where famous religious figures are buried, as well as cultural and art workers.
- Saw: has two lakes on the banks of which you can relax, including organizing a picnic.
- Rasos: interesting by the Pushkin Literary Museum (exposition in the form of paintings, drawings, photographs, books, manuscripts, household items, will acquaint guests with the life and work of Pushkin) and Belmontas Park (here it is recommended to ride an ATV or horse, fly on a bungee, study suspended bridges, relax in a gazebo or cafe).
- Karoliniškės: famous for the Vilnius TV Tower (the tower is over 320 m high; here, at 165 meters, it is recommended to dine at the Milky Way revolving restaurant) and part of the Fairy Tale Park (on its territory there are wood sculptures of fairy heroes).
Where to stay for tourists
If you want to save on accommodation (a decent hotel can be rented for 30-40 euros / day) and are going to travel by train or bus during your vacation, you can stay near the Railway Station (there is a bus station nearby).
Those who want to be close to the main walking routes (the surroundings of these streets are rich in sights) should do the search for hotels near the central streets (Pilies, Djeyi, Ausros Vartu). In this part of the city, tourists may be interested in the hotels “Grybas House” and “Hotel Domus Maria”.
