The main state symbols do not always have a complex composition with many main and secondary elements. The coat of arms of Paraguay surprises with its brevity, severity, seeming simplicity. But behind each of the few details of the country's symbol, there is a deep meaning. Moreover, the country's authorities thought about creating a state emblem two hundred years ago. According to historians, the first version of the coat of arms of Paraguay was born in 1820, when the dictator Garcia was at the helm of power.
Harmony of color
Paraguay's main emblem is round. On the one hand, the color palette is quite rich, there are the most popular colors in heraldry:
- white (silver), serving as a background;
- black, acting as a contour;
- Red;
- blue and green in the coloring of the elements;
- yellow (gold) in the image of the star and the design of the name of the country.
On the other hand, the white color, as it were, balances this riot of colors, the coat of arms looks restrained, laconic.
Conciseness and meaning
The main state symbol of Paraguay is an alternation of rings or overlapping circles in which elements or inscriptions are placed. The outline is black, but not thin, but rather bold. Next comes a circle of white color without any elements and drawings.
The next red ring contains the name of the country, written in gold, “Republic of Paraguay”. The smaller white ring depicts the criss-crossing branches of a palm or olive. These plants are the leaders of heraldry, they are present singly or together on many official emblems of states.
Olive is one of the trees that have mastered almost all continents, and are an important source of income for some countries in the Mediterranean, the Middle East and Asia. The appearance of the olive branch on the coat of arms of Paraguay can be considered no coincidence, since in heraldry it symbolizes abundance, fertility, and satiety. The palm tree is a symbol of victory, glory, superiority, immortality or resurrection.
In the center is a blue (azure) circle with an image of a golden five-pointed star on it. The pentagram or star with five points is also quite common in heraldry. The Soviet Union in this matter cannot take on the palm, although practically all the former Soviet republics, as well as the friends who joined them, had this element on the coat of arms.
