The city of Gaudí, Picasso and Salvador Dali is one of the most popular tourist destinations not only in Spain, but also in the entire Old World. People fly to Barcelona for beach vacations and excursions, for Spanish language courses and food tours. Many unique architectural structures and historical sights, authentic restaurants and flamenco - the city is very attractive for any traveler, and the suburbs of Barcelona are not much inferior in importance to the center. Using this, it is there that you can look for a hotel - it will cost less, and it will be much faster and easier to get to many interesting points on the map.

Worthy of attention

In the vicinity of Barcelona, there are many worthy places where it is easy and simple to get out for the whole day both for exploring the sights and for a pleasant beach holiday:

  • Sitges is a southwestern suburb of Barcelona. A dozen of pristine beaches in its vicinity are a place of relaxation for both locals and foreign visitors, and the many festivals held in Sitges make it possible to arrange an eventful and varied weekend.
  • Montserrat is home to one of the greatest gems of medieval architecture - a Benedictine monastery of the 11th century, built among high cliffs of a bizarre rugged shape. More than one and a half thousand plant species adorn the local park, and the mountain paths around the monastery are a real open-air museum. Among its exhibits are magnificent sculptures and ancient majolica. You can get to Montserrat by cable car, and the main shrine of the monastery - the Black Maiden of Montserrat - is able to fulfill the most cherished desires.
  • In a suburb of Barcelona called Blanes, there is a Botanical Garden with a unique collection of cacti. In addition to the thorny representatives of the Mediterranean flora, visitors are greeted by palm trees, pine trees and hundreds of species of flowers. The beaches of Blanes are another reason to get out for the whole day in this pretty town, especially since some of them have been awarded Blue Flag certificates more than once.
  • The great Salvador Dali once lived and worked in Cadaques, and for this reason he is included in the program of excursions by all curious travelers. But the artist's house-museum is located in Figueres - a picturesque place surrounded by magnificent mountain landscapes. It is here that the famous lip-shaped sofa stands and other rarities are kept that inspired the master to create immortal masterpieces.
