Not the largest country on the planet in terms of area, Lithuania, nevertheless, has a rather complex system of administrative division, which will not be superfluous to understand before going on vacation or on a weekend. The main regions of Lithuania are called counties. There are ten of them, and each of them, in turn, is divided into self-government. There are six dozen of them in the country, and local governments can look like cities or districts and are administratively divided further into the elders. There are more than five hundred of these hard-to-pronounce objects on the map of Lithuania, but even this the Baltic bureaucrats decided not to stop at. It is planned to divide the eldership into xianyuniti. One can only wonder who, with so many managers, will bake bread or make boots?

However, for an ordinary traveler, all these territorial intricacies are not very important, because crossing the borders of Lithuanian regions when moving in no way affects the quality of roads or the comfort of trains.

Repeating the alphabet

The list of regions of Lithuania, called counties, is headed by Alytus. The capital of the country is located in Vilnius, and one of the main and largest cities of the country - Kaunas - is in Kaunas. Klaipeda as a part of the county of the same name is familiar to travelers as a port on the Baltic Sea, and Panevezys - as the birthplace of the theater, in which the magnificent Donatas Banionis played for many years. For those who prefer a leisurely and measured resort Baltic to all types of beach recreation, we can recommend a vacation in Palanga - refined, dull, but very hospitable and comfortable.

Why Siauliai?

One of the favorite tourist cities in Lithuania is Siauliai in the north of the country. It is not deprived of attention neither by admirers of ancient history, nor by fans of unusual museum expositions. The city was inhabited already in the 1st century of our faith, and in the Middle Ages serious battles between the local army and the invaders from the Order of the Sword were thundered here.

Modern Šiauliai is a region of Lithuania where a healthy lifestyle is strongly encouraged. It is even called the cycling capital of the country, because since the 80s of the last century, many residents of Siauliai have chosen a two-wheeled friend as a means of transportation.

And in this city there are several interesting exhibitions that will seem informative and exciting to all categories of travelers. The most famous are the museums of cats, photography, radio and television and, of course, bicycles.
