Transport in the Czech Republic is famous for its high level of comfort. In addition, the country has developed transport links, thanks to which you can easily get to various European countries and cities.
Popular types of transport in the Czech Republic
- Public transport: it includes trams (operate from 04:30 to 24:00), metro (available only in Prague, consists of lines - A, B and C, operates from 05:00 to 00:00), buses. It is worth noting that tickets (you can buy them in the metro, newsagents, hotels, supermarkets) are valid for a certain time (20 minutes, 1, 5 hours), so it is more profitable to buy passes that are valid for 1, 3 or more days. Before entering, tickets must be validated, otherwise the controller may consider you a free rider and fine you a considerable amount.
- Rail transport: it is convenient to travel around the country by trains (depending on the direction of the trains, they run every hour or even more often). You can travel on high-speed trains (IC, EC), but in this case the cost of the trip will be higher or on the slowest trains (O) with many stops (cheapest tickets). Since the ticket offices selling train tickets do not work around the clock, it is advisable to worry about buying them in advance.
- Cable car: you can ride on it along the route Ujezd - Nebozizek - Petřín (opening hours: 09: 15-20: 45).
Taxi
You can “catch” a taxi on the street, as well as call it by phone or use taxi services at special parking lots in tourist centers. But, since taxi drivers often inflate prices before setting off, it is advisable to check the prices in advance and make sure that the meter is reset (at the end of the trip, drivers issue receipts).
Car rent
With an international driving license, you can rent a car in the Czech Republic (minimum age 21). So, you can get to small Czech towns, see medieval castles, relax in thermal spas, and, if you wish, get to neighboring Poland or Austria (but you must inform the representative of the rental company about this).
So that you do not have to pay a decent fine while driving on the main roads of the country (toll roads are marked with a blue “motorway” sign), you need to have a special sticker confirming the payment of transport tax (you can buy it at a gas station). When driving a rented car, it is worth considering that it is forbidden to drive within the city at a speed exceeding 50 km / h.
