The Dominican Republic is known as one of the most popular diving destinations in the entire Caribbean. Coral reefs and underwater "lawns", home to numerous species of tropical fish, sharks and rays, humpback whales and manatees, as well as majestic underwater caves - this is diving in the Dominican Republic.
Dominican diving features numerous wrecks. The ships that have sunk to the bottom date back not only to the last century. Here you can also see ancient ships that took part in sea battles during the development of the American continent. The depths of the Dominican Republic contain the remains of 400 ships that have sunk to the bottom over the past five centuries.
Catalina Island
This island is considered one of the best dive sites in the Caribbean. The underwater landscape is decorated with unique gardens of hard and soft coral. Tubular sponges and colorful small fish live here.
National Park
The depths of the dive site do not exceed fourteen meters, but many divers compare the place to an underwater paradise. Various coral varieties, magnificent reefs and colorful schools of tropical fish create an incredibly beautiful underwater landscape. During the trip, you can meet a huge crab, which decided to bask on the gorgonian, or you can stumble upon an old cannon surrounded by cannonballs.
Bayahibe
A small fishing village, located on the territory of the Eastern National Park, attracts divers with its wreck - a sunken dry cargo ship. The ship has undergone special training, and divers are given a unique opportunity to explore its insides. Similar wrecks are located in the waters of La Galeta.
Padre Nuestro cave
A very interesting place. The entrance to the cave is hidden by dense thickets of the jungle, and the grotto, which serves as the entrance, simply amazes with its magnificence. Padre Nuestro is suitable even for absolute beginners in diving.
Although the cave is completely flooded, you can swim at the far end to admire its unusual structure.
La Sirena Cave
Dive site is unique. The cave is considered the most interesting for diving, providing an opportunity to admire the amazing beauty of the underworld. In order to inspect all its tunnels and grottoes, one dive is not enough.
The picture that appears before the diver's eyes will forever remain in the memory: hanging vines of plants covering the entrance to the cave and absolutely transparent waters of the underground lake, which are painted by the sun's rays in an amazing turquoise color. From the ceiling along the edges of the cave, stalactites go down, shimmering in the rays of underwater lights. An underwater passage leads divers into a hall filled with water of various densities - salty and fresh, so you can see a rather rare phenomenon here - halocline (mixing of salt and fresh water).
