No matter how much time the guests of Moscow spend in it, there will always be a shortage of time. A huge city, huge distances. We need to have time to do all the planned things, think about cultural leisure. Is there really a day left for shopping? Then you need to know exactly what you want to buy and where.
One of the main values of shopping in a metropolis is finding a store in the path of your current travel route. That is why there are shopping centers near most metro stations where you can buy all the goods you need for life and recreation. Such centers are arranged in the same type - shops with clothes, shoes, accessories of mid-price brands, some electronics, some little things, a grocery supermarket, a food court, a cinema. The brands are about the same. The main difference is the size of the retail space. In the suburbs, the problem of location is less acute, so the choice of goods, for example, in "Mega Teply Stan" or "Mega Khimki", is much better.
The central streets of the city are full of expensive boutiques and department stores. It is simply impossible to list the mass of stores. You can try to name the streets along which you should stroll in search of luxury. These are Tverskaya, Stoleshnikov lane, Petrovka, Yakimanka, Malaya Bronnaya, Bolshaya Nikitskaya, New and Old Arbat.
The two most luxurious department stores in the capital, GUM and TSUM, are known to every citizen of the country, but not everyone has been to them. These are not just shops, they are objects of historical heritage. They each have their own history, closely related to the history of the state. They host cultural events, shows and exhibitions.
Popular retail outlets
- GUM - located on Red Square, on the site of the former Upper Trading Rows. These are several rows of passages under a glass roof in a pseudo-Russian style. Brisk trade has been going on here since the seventeenth century. The shops have turned into a beautiful building that has been rebuilt several times. For a long time, here not only were they engaged in buying and selling, but also walking and relaxing. And now the calm atmosphere of the GUM passages relaxes and pacifies.
- TSUM - located on Teatralnaya Square, where Petrovka begins, in a building with original architecture. New items from all over the world end up first in TSUM, and then in other stores in the country. What's nice, TSUM has its own outlet. It is located in Mega Teply Stan.
- Okhotny Ryad is a more democratic shopping center compared to GUM or TSUM, but also quite expensive and pretentious. Built underground near the Alexander Garden. The center is very crowded - the choice of goods is large, plus many tourists come here to relax after visiting the Kremlin and the city's museums, have a bite to eat and just take a look.
- The Central Children's Store on Lubyanka is the legendary “Children's World”, which has been delighting children and adults with a wide range of goods for more than half a century. Visitors will find entertainment for all tastes: the world's largest toy store, the World of Hamleys, a giant Lego rocket, Kidburg, a children's city of professions, Dinosaur Show, an observation deck and much more.
- Another iconic shopping place in Moscow is Old Arbat. Souvenir, antique shops, numerous restaurants await guests in the pedestrian zone. Musicians, mimes, artists and everyone who has something to tell about themselves, surprise and amuse those walking are performing in the open air.
