The beautiful Greek city of Alexandroupoli and its surroundings will delight their guests with a lot of interesting places and stunning beauty of nature. Among the attractions of Alexandroupolis, the excellent Ethnological Museum of Thrace certainly deserves special attention. It is located along 14 May Street, in a charming neoclassical mansion dating back to 1899.
The Ethnological Museum opened its doors to visitors in 2002. The collection of the museum perfectly illustrates the history of the development of culture, life and everyday life of the inhabitants of Thrace from the end of the 17th to the beginning of the 20th century. With exhibits, videos and an excellent photo gallery on display in the museum, you will be able to get acquainted in detail with the music and religion of the region, the peculiarities of clothing, agriculture, confectionery, the textile industry, etc.
The permanent exhibition of the Ethnological Museum contains about 550 exhibits, while the rest is kept in museum funds. You will be able to see an excellent collection of traditional costumes and hats, various tools and household utensils, bronzes and ceramics, olive oil press, jewelry, musical instruments, historical documents and much more. The museum also has its own excellent library.
The activities of the museum are aimed at collecting, studying and preserving information related to the local culture and traditions of Thrace, as well as popularizing this knowledge among the younger generation. To this end, the Ethnological Museum regularly hosts various educational and cultural events.
On the territory of the museum there is a small cozy cafe where you can relax and a souvenir shop.
