Description of the attraction
The famous Hyderabad Nehru Zoo is one of the most visited places in the city. Named after Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of independent India, the zoological park was officially unveiled to the public in 1963. It is located on an area of 150 hectares and is adjacent to the huge bicentennial lake Mir Alam Tank. The park is a kind of protected area, where conditions are created for each individual animal that imitate its natural habitat. In total, the Nehru Zoo is home to about 250 species of animals, birds and reptiles, such as tigers, Asiatic lions, deer, kangaroos, antelopes, panthers, pythons, Indian (spectacled) cobras. All animals are under constant supervision of keepers.
There is also a “night hall” on the territory of the zoo, where you can see in action nocturnal animals and birds, such as hedgehogs, Bengal cats, civets, lorises, tawny owls, barn owls, fruit bats.
In addition to the inhabitants permanently living in the territory of the zoological park, the Mir Alam Tank lake during migration is a favorite place for many migratory birds. Which in turn attracts bird watchers from all over the world. Taking this into account, the management of the zoo organized excursion and walking trips along the lake on boats and a ferry.
Also every day (except Mondays, when the institution is closed) on the territory of the zoo, you can take part in themed safaris, ride an elephant or go to the natural history museum. The smallest visitors can take a ride on a special train in the children's park or visit the section where the dinosaur figures are located.
