Description of the attraction

The basis of the Kozmodemnskiy cultural complex is the Art and History Museum. A. V. Grigoriev with a unique collection of genuine paintings by Russian artists of the 18-20th centuries, famous all over the world. The phenomenon is rare for the Russian province.

In 1918, the Volga-Kama traveling exhibition was organized, accompanied by the Kazan artists P. A. Radimov and G. M. Medvedev, in order to bring art closer to the people. In Kozmodemyansk, the exhibition was caught in a civil war and the further path was cut off by the front line. Accompanying artists open drawing courses in a small town and present picturesque canvases of the Gornomarisk region to Russian art culture.

In September 1919, the first professional artist from the Mari people - A. V. Grigoriev created a museum on the basis of a traveling art exhibition with an exposition of 40 pieces of exhibits. Thanks to the founder, the museum collection was actively replenished with paintings and graphic works from the Moscow central repository of the state museum fund. Nowadays, the museum's exposition consists of works by artists of different directions, a collection of ancient porcelain, wood, bone, glass and metal products of Western European, Eastern and Russian masters of the 18-20 centuries. The pride of the museum are canvases: I. K. Aivazovsky, T. Neff, R. Sudkovsky, L. Kamenev, P. Konchalovsky, K. Makovsky, A. Korzukhin and many others, whose paintings make up the collections of world-class museums.
