Description of the attraction

The Croatian History Museum is located in the country's capital, Zagreb. The Historical Museum is housed in an 18th century Baroque building. Previously, this building was the Voykovich-Orshich palace. Today, only the dance hall reminds of the past of the building.

In 1960, the first expositions were placed in the building and it acquired the status of a museum. After 31 years, several historical collections were merged, as a result of which in 1991 the museum became the owner of the status of the Croatian History Museum. It is now considered the main museum in Croatia.

Today, the museum has collected a large number of collections, consisting of thousands of all kinds of exhibits that tell about the historical development of the Croatian state, from the events that took place here in the medieval era and ending with modern times. Each of the museum exhibits is a part of the state's cultural heritage.

The 17 collections of the Croatian Historical Museum include more than 200 thousand different exhibits. The museum's collections are dedicated to archeology, documents, maps, works of applied art, numismatics, photographs and films, coats of arms and flags, paintings, prints and sculptures, as well as everyday objects.

In addition to expositions, the museum has a library. Thanks to the cooperation of the library and book publishers, the museum has published 40 catalogs about thematic exhibitions.
