Description of the attraction

The monument to Yakub Kolas was erected in 1972, on the anniversary of his 90th birthday, on the square named after him. The spatial composition of the monument consists of three sculptural groups. In the center, the popularly beloved Belarusian poet Yakub Kolas sits in a pensive pose, and on both sides of him his literary heroes are embodied: Ded Talash and Symon Muzyka.

The monument is located in a small park, planted with slender white birches and blue spruces, making it look great at any time of the year. There are small fountains on the sides of the monument.

The sculptor, People's Artist of the USSR Zair Isaakovich Azgur, architects: Y. Gradov, G. Zaborsky, L. Levin worked on the monument.

Yakub Kolas is a Soviet Belarusian classic, the founder of a new style of modern literature, writer, poet, academician of the Byelorussian SSR. His real name is Konstantin Mikhailovich Mitskevich. Born in Okinchitsy (Minsk region) in 1882. Yakub Kolas is honored not only at home, but all over the world. In the Republic of Belarus, several streets, a square in Minsk, theaters are named after him. His literary works have been repeatedly filmed. One of the sculptural compositions - "Ded Talash" - depicts the heroes of the film shot at the Belarusfilm studio by director Sergei Shulga based on the story "Drygva" by Yakub Kolas. Grandfather Talash is a real person, a hero of the partisan movement. He told his story to Yakub Kolas himself. Symon Muzyka is the hero of the lyric poem by Yakub Kolas about a gifted musician boy from the people, about his love for art and freedom.
