Description of the attraction

Boka Kotorska Bay is the largest on the Adriatic. Among other things, the concept of the Bay of Kotor also includes a river canyon, once sunken, and a famous historical natural ensemble.

The Bay of Kotor, often called a bay, is a visiting card of Montenegro. He is considered a unique natural creature, into which all the love and soul of the Creator was invested. Every tourist who has visited this small beautiful country was truly amazed. Everyone gives this bay only the most enthusiastic epithets. They say that it even happened like this: at the sight of the beauty of this place, it was simply breathtaking, and his admiration eloquently conveyed the absence of any words.

Boka Kotorska Bay is the only fjord in the Mediterranean region. It is located on the border with Croatia, on the southwestern side of Montenegro.

According to scientists, many years ago there was a river mouth on the site of this bay. Due to underground shifts and other natural processes, the river ended up under water, and a picturesque bay appeared at this place. One gets the impression that the sea has cut into the land for 30 km, thus forming a bizarre bay, the shape of which explains the name of the bay.

The ancient Italian word boccha is mouth and Cattaro is Kotor. This is exactly what the seafarers called this place. And the descendants of coastal sailors-Slavs sometimes stand out as a nationality and are called bokeltsy. Boko-Kotor Bay consists of 3 bays: Tivatsky, Herceg-Novsky and Kotorsky. The names come from the cities that are located here.

In addition to natural attractions, the area has great historical and cultural significance not only for local peoples, but also for the entire planet. The shores of the Bay of Kotor contain a large number of ancient Catholic and Orthodox churches and churches that serve as places of pilgrimage. The most famous of them are the Cathedral of St. Tryphon (Kotor), the Savina monastery (Herceg-Nov).

Tourists are interested in the Bay of Kotor thanks to its cultural heritage, which is protected by UNESCO, an international organization. Every year, the cities of the Gulf host carnivals, processions, festivals, exhibitions and other events. The most famous are the Bokelskaya Night and the Mimosa Festival, which are undoubtedly colorful spectacles.
