Description of the attraction

The Penza region is unusually rich in creative people who later became famous throughout the world. The estate of the world famous theater reformer of the twentieth century V. E. Meyerhold, which has preserved the interior layout of the house and the design of the facade, adorns the historic district of the city. The wooden building, built in 1881 by the architect E. S. Milyanovsky, belonged to the father of the brilliant director - Emil Fedorovich Meyergold (a merchant of the second guild and the owner of a vodka factory located opposite the museum). In the house where Vsevolod Emilievich Meyerhold was born and raised, today there is a museum of theatrical art named after him.

Museum of Performing Arts named after V. E. Meyerhold was opened in February 1984 (to the 110th anniversary of the birth of the artist) and consists of three main exhibitions telling about the work and life of the director. The first part shows the life of the Meyerhold family, the second - Vsevolod Emilievich's staging of the drama "Masquerade" by M. Yu. Lermontov, and the third part is occupied by modern author's theaters (the concept of theatrical avant-garde).

In 1999, the opening of the monument to V. E. Meyerhold, dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of the genius theatrical reformer. The sculptor Yu. E. Tkachenko became its author. A bronze figure climbing the steps to a half-open door mounted in the wall of a winery that once belonged to the Meyerhold family immortalized Vsevolod Emilievich in motion, accurately conveying his image.

The estate-museum of Vsevolod Emilievich Meyerhold is a historical and cultural monument of federal significance and, together with the monument of the same name, is a unique attraction of the city of Penza.
