Description of the attraction

The National Cricket Stadium, formerly known as King's Park, is a dedicated complex on River Road. The first cricket teams in Grenada appeared in 1887, during a visit to the West Indies by gentlemen from America. The teams played games in the old royal park. Ten years later, during one of the rounds, Lord Hawke's presence was noted among the players, although this match was not significant. In 1899 G. A. de Freitas and William Mignon became the first professional cricketers in Grenada.

The stadium was rebuilt several times. Queen Park suffered one of the most significant restoration works after the new complex, rebuilt in 2000, was damaged in September 2004 by Hurricane Ivan.

Reconstructed once again, the former King's Park was the site of the 2007 Cricket World Cup, in 2014 another cricket tournament took place. The stadium is funded by the People's Republic of China.
