Description of the attraction
The oldest in Ukraine Nikolaev yacht club was founded in 1887. It is located in the northwestern part of the city at 7 Sportivnaya Street, on the Southern Bug River. The Yacht Club building in the Italian Renaissance style was designed by the architect and member of the Yacht Club Leopold Rode.
The Nikolaev yacht club was created on the initiative of the captain of the first rank E. Golikov, the scientist V. Ryumin and the historian N. Arkas. The first constituent assembly took place in August 1887 in the “Moldovan house”, which was located on the Ingul embankment. The meeting discussed the draft Charter of the future yacht club, determined the size of membership fees and elected members of the board. At the second meeting in September 1887, E. Golikov was elected secretary of the committee. The official opening of the yacht club took place in May 1889.
In 1900, the yacht club already had 20 private sailing, 7 public and 8 private rowing boats. In 1904, a new building of the Nikolaev Yacht Club was opened, which has survived to this day. Since 1905, the yacht club was under the leadership of the Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich. In the period from 1917 to 1920, it underwent a crisis. Its restoration began in 1920. In 1926, a sailing championship was held in the city. Four pupils of the Nikolaev yacht club were recognized as the first masters of sports of the USSR.
During the Great Patriotic War, many yachts were destroyed, and some of them were hijacked to Germany, but after the liberation of the city, it was decided to restore all the sports facilities of the city.
Currently, the Nikolaev Yacht Club has preserved all the best yachting traditions. The club pays great attention to holding a large number of sailing regattas, during which yachts from all over the Black Sea coast gather. Every spring a yacht fair is held in the club's wardroom.
