In Hammerfest, the polar bear is a symbol of a generation, as evidenced by the numerous images of this polar giant everywhere, including on the city's coat of arms.
It is in Hammerfest that the only one in the world "Royal Polar Bear Club" is located, rich in a variety of postcards, drawings, porcelain figurines and toys. A tour of the club will introduce you to the animals living in the far north, the history of the city, traditional hunting and fishing methods in Lapland and the harsh life of the indigenous Sami people.
Everyone who wishes, having passed the rite of passage, becomes a member of the Royal Polar Bear Club, receiving a silver badge in the shape of a northern bear, a diploma with a certificate signed by the mayor of the city, and a personal membership card with a personal number. In the colorfully decorated rooms of the museum, you will see a polar bear, flashes of the Northern Lights and feel the presence of the Arctic breath.
