The construction was supervised by two architects von Hildenbrandt and von Welsch.
But the Residence became famous for its unique grand staircase, designed by the architect Balthasar Neumann. The vault above this baroque staircase is decorated with the world's largest fresco by the Venetian artist Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.
In the Imperial Hall of the palace, there are Tiepolo frescoes depicting scenes from the history of Würzburg, including portraits of artists, architects, sculptors who worked in the palace. The huge Garden Hall is decorated with stucco decorations by Antonio Bossi. The Venetian room is decorated with a tapestry depicting the Venice Carnival and decorative panels with paintings by Johann Talhofer.
A special impression is left by the inspection of the palace chapel, the interior of which is richly decorated with paintings, sculptures and stucco moldings. In the side altars of the chapel, you can see magnificent paintings by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.
