Description of the attraction

The monument to the liberators of Donbass is located in the Kiev district of the city of Donetsk, in the park of the Lenin Komsomol. The monument was erected at the end of the alley that divides the park into two parts. And since it is located on a hill, from its foot you can see the Kalininsky district of the city of Donetsk and the Krasnogvardeisky district in Makeevka, which are located on the left bank of the Kalmius river.

A memorial complex called "Liberators of Donbass" was opened on May 8, 1984. The decision to erect a monument to the liberators of the region from the Nazis in Donetsk was made back in the 1960s, but then it seemed absolutely impossible to everyone, since work on memorials of this scale was entrusted only to the creative teams of the capital. And yet, one of the Kiev teams began work on it, but then everything stopped at the stage of ideological development, since at the site where the construction of the monument was planned, the construction of the Palace of Pioneers was planned.

The group of creators of the monument was approved in 1978, it included: the chief architect of Donetsk Vladimir Kishkan, architect Mikhail Ksenevich, sculptors Alexander Porozhnyuk and Yuri Baldin. The idea of creating a monument in the form of figures of a miner and a soldier matured back in 1976, but the group considered various options for a long time. Work on the construction of the monument began in 1980.

The monument is a triangular-shaped platform on which there are three inclined volumetric mills emerging from the ground, symbolizing the silhouettes of Donetsk waste heaps. The Eternal Flame is burning at the foot of the monument. One wall contains the inscription “1943. To your liberators, Donbass”, on the other - a sculptural group with a list of dates for the liberation of regional settlements. On the site there is a composition of sculptures of a soldier and a miner, who together, with their right hands, hold a sword directed downward with a point. The soldier raised his left hand up, and the miner pulled it aside. Behind them is the silhouette of a developing banner in the form of a five-pointed star.
