Description of the attraction
The Alley of Glory is one of the sights of the city of Pyatigorsk, Stavropol Territory. The Alley starts from a tram stop and, stretching from west to east through the entire Komsomolsky Park, leads to a monumental monument erected in honor of the defenders of the Fatherland. One end of the Walk of Fame abuts against gymnasium No. 4, and the other into a group of objects - "Horseshoe" (fountain, tram stop, shopping center).
The Alley of Military Glory was opened in the mid-80s. The opening of the monument was timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. In the spring of 1985, the alley was planted with beautiful blue spruces. In the same year, the Glory Memorial Complex was opened in the center of the alley. The author of the project is the artist V. V. Markov. The Memorial and the Alley were in good harmony with each other, creating a single solemn and austere look.
For the 65th anniversary of the Victory in 2010, the Alley of Military Glory and the Memorial itself were reconstructed. The avenue slabs were replaced with paving slabs, all trees growing in the upper part of the alley were completely cut down, and other species were planted instead. Of the sixteen planted trees, only one did not dry up in three months, all the other trees, unfortunately, died.
During the reconstruction, the facing of the Memorial was also replaced. From the strongest granite, it was replaced with porcelain stoneware mounted on an aluminum profile. The cladding was not made of very high quality, therefore, after six months, at the memorial complex, one could see the fallen off and chipped slabs. The museum was open for only a few days, after which it was closed again due to flooding by groundwater.
