Description of the attraction
The park of modern sculptures in Vyborg was formed in the city center, in a public garden at the corner of Vokzalnaya Street and Leningradskoye Highway, not far from Red Square and the bus and railway stations.
In the unusual park, you can see nine creative works made of granite. Their creators are participants in the 1988 Vyborg Sculpture Symposium. These are "The Wolf" by sculptor Viktor Pavlovich Dimov, "The Singing Stone" by S. I. Aslamov, "Rest by the Sea" and "Ulitan" by the sculptor Anatoly Mikhailovich Bogachev, "Song" by T. Tuliev, "Orpheus" by the sculptor Yuri Vladimirovich Evgrafov, "Blacksmith" by Stanislav Konstantinovich Zadorozhny, "Kneeling" - the work of the graphic artist, painter, sculptor Evgeny Fedorovich Maryshev, "Rest" by artist V. A. Polozov, "Builder" by sculptor Lev Naumovich Smorgon.
The work "Boy with a Cat" by the participant of the symposium of the sculptor Leva Ambartsumovich Beibutyan was installed in the park at the corner of the 40th Anniversary of the Komsomol Embankment and Leningradsky Prospekt. Until recently, this place was occupied by the sculpture "Young Fisherman", which is now lost (sculptor Mikko Hovi, 1924).
The work "Wave" by N. N. Khromova in the form of a granite figure of a floating woman is located at the sanatorium-preventorium of the shipyard in the village of Zimino.
In choosing the subjects for their works, the sculptors were helped by their acquaintance with the artistic customs of old Vyborg, with the nature of the Vyborg region, the peculiarities of the rocky landscape and water spaces. In a number of cases, human figures are interpreted by them in genre situations. The conventionality of the forms and their generalization emphasize that the images are not photographic casts of nature, but are either an interpreted artistic image of a literary hero, or images of creativity, work, recreation.
A certain monotony and noticeable passivity of sitting, lying and kneeling figures, in addition, presented practically without pedestals, in most cases reduces their visual perception. Also, a negative role in the formation of the park was played by the fact that the square was not specially prepared for this before the installation of sculptures in it. Land improvement activities were not carried out even after the sculptors' works were arranged chaotically, without a well-thought-out plan. However, the arrangement of new alleys, installed benches, broken flower beds, flower beds and additional landscaping could well revive and emphasize the overall colorful picture.
Despite this, the Vyborg sculptural symposium has become the most important event in the cultural and artistic life of the city, taking into account, mainly, the fact that Vyborg has recently lost more monuments of park and monumental sculpture than it gained.
