Description of the attraction
The Aalborg History Museum is a museum for the historical and cultural heritage of the city of Aalborg in Denmark. The museum was founded in 1863.
The Historical Museum was created to tell about the history of the city and the surrounding lands, tell about the events that took place over the past millennium. Founded in 1863, this museum has become one of the youngest provincial museums in Denmark. The museum acquired its present appearance back in 1878. In the early 1890s, it was expanded to house a growing collection of artifacts illustrating the history from the earliest inhabitants of the area to the present day.
The museum has an extensive collection of garments and other fabrics dating back to the 18th century, as well as more recent exhibits up to modern ones. In the 1950s, the Aalborg Historical Museum carried out a series of archaeological excavations, in 1994 and 1995 excavations were repeated, giving the opportunity to emerge new collections.
In 2004, several organizations came together to form the North Jutland History Museum. The museum is governed by 12 members of a committee, which in turn consists of members of the organizations that founded the museum. The parent organization formed by this union manages research, educational programs, socially-oriented programs, including charitable ones. The Aalborg Historical Museum organizes all kinds of exhibitions, displaying its extensive collections. Collections of glass and silver items are considered to be especially interesting.
