Description of the attraction
The Schladming Town Hall is located in the former hunting lodge of Prince Ludwig August of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. The three-story building with a south tower was built in 1884. It was a comfortable villa designed for an easy, carefree life. Its exterior was reminiscent of the designs of English castles of the 16th-17th centuries, and a sloping roof with dormers was typical of French country mansions.
The municipality of Schladming bought the Saxe-Coburg hunting lodge in 1940. It is currently turned into a town hall. Its premises were modernized in accordance with the requirements of the time and the officials who settled there. The exterior of the villa has remained the same. At the main portal you can see the coat of arms of the city of Schladming. The facades of the building are covered with ivy, which gives the mansion a charm and makes it less formal.
The town hall of Schladming is surrounded by a park, which was laid out by its former owner, the Prince of Saxe-Coburg. One of the main attractions of the park is the massive stone that stood on the border of the Schladming community in the Middle Ages. It is the only surviving Schladming border post. On it you can see the date "1588", which indicates the time of its installation. The embossed letters "BBZS" refer to the "Schladming municipality". In the center of the stone there is a kind of emblem representing crossed hammers and the Latin letter "S". These are symbols of mining, which is a direct indication of the occupation of the inhabitants of Schladming in past centuries. The park with shady alleys and benches installed on them is open at any time of the day.
