Description of the attraction
Rosenborg Palace is a historic building in the center of Copenhagen city. The large architectural complex was conceived by King Christian IV in 1606-1624 as a summer royal residence. In 1624 the castle was redesigned in the Renaissance style by the Flemish architect Hans Stenwinkel the Younger. From that time to the present day, the appearance of the castle has not changed. The most magnificent decoration was the ballroom, where ceremonial receptions, balls and royal audiences were held. In 1710 Frederick IV and his family left the Rosenborg Palace. Since then, the kings have returned to the residence only twice - in 1794, when Christiansborg burned down, and in 1801, during the Battle of Copenhagen.
In 1838, the Rosenborg Royal Palace was opened to the public. The palace houses a wonderful collection of jewelry, adornments, portraits, porcelain, weapons, and interior items. It is especially interesting to see the exhibition of royal jewels, regalia and the Coronation Carpet.
In summer, Rosenborg Palace is especially beautiful, as the Royal Gardens are located around the palace. These are indeed the very royal gardens laid out by Christian IV during the Renaissance. About 2.5 million people a year visit the gardens, admiring the many types of flowers and plants. In 2001, a new Renaissance garden was opened.
Rosenborg Palace is one of the most famous and important historical monuments in Denmark. The castle is visited by a large number of tourists from all over the world every year.
