Description of the attraction
The picturesque island of Zakynthos is considered to be one of the most beautiful islands in Greece. Every year thousands of tourists from all over the world come to this fabulous island to enjoy its magnificent natural landscapes, fantastic landscapes and the crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea.
On the northern coast of Zakynthos, in the area of Cape Skinari, about 35 km from the capital of the island of the same name, there are the famous Blue Caves - one of the most famous and impressive natural attractions in Greece. The caves are partially flooded with water and can only be visited by the sea.
The Blue Caves were discovered in 1897 and got their name from the stunning azure color of the water. Through the arches of bizarre shapes, carved into the snow-white rocks by nature itself, you will find yourself in the incredible beauty of the cave. The sun's rays, penetrating here, are refracted on the water saturated with calcium and minerals and, in combination with white rocks, create a stunning effect. The depth here averages about 4 m, and the water is so transparent that you can see every pebble on the bottom. The Blue Caves are especially popular with diving enthusiasts.
The nearest port from which you can go on an excursion to this amazing place is Agios Nicholas, located on the northwest coast of the island. But, of course, you can organize an excursion to the Blue Caves from virtually any port of Zakynthos. You can also rent a boat and go to the caves on your own. However, in this case, it is worth considering that a visit to the Blue Caves (and even more so swimming) in bad weather conditions is strongly discouraged.
