Description of the attraction
The Museum of Contemporary Art, formerly part of the National Gallery of Carinthia, is located in the center of Klagenfurt, on Burggasse. The collections of this museum occupy the premises of the local castle. The total exhibition area reaches 1000 sq. M.
In addition to the chateau premises, the exhibition halls are a 650 sq. M. Courtyard, an open gallery on the ground floor and even a chateau chapel. In the courtyard, temporary exhibitions are usually held, where young, up-and-coming artists present their installations. The gallery displays sculptures from the collection of the Museum of Modern Art. The chapel is dedicated to young talents as a venue for experimental art projects and the placement of original objects that cannot be outdoors. By the way, the castle chapel is remarkable even without these art objects. It is decorated with frescoes from the Baroque era. The painter Joseph Ferdinand Fromiller worked on the painting of the temple.
The collection of the Museum of Modern Art is housed in 14 rooms of Klagenfurt Castle. In addition to permanent exhibitions, temporary thematic ones are often held here. The museum also organizes creative evenings, where you can talk with artists, listen to an interesting lecture or discuss your favorite work with art lovers. The pride of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Carinthia is a large collection of art and sculptural works by contemporary Austrian and foreign artists. The works of art on display in the museum date back to the 20th and 21st centuries.
