Description of the attraction
One of the oldest buildings in the city of Donetsk, which has survived to this day, is Nesterov's house, which is located in the Leninsky district on Potiyskaya street, 57. You can often hear that this house belonged to A. Bolfur, but it should be replaced that this is a mistake, since Bolfur's house was located in the area of Levoberezhnaya street. The same building belongs to the noble family of the Nesterovs, the main owners of the coal mining industry in this region in the late 18th - early 20th centuries.
The Nesterov House, erected in 1889, is a two-story building with a three-story adjoining tower framed by battlements. A closed steep wooden staircase leads to the tower. Thanks to this staircase, you can get to the lower tiers of the building, and from the second floor you can get to the attic. A stone staircase leads to the second floor. There are small observation windows on each floor.
Nesterov's house is made of limestone bricks. Its walls are about 70 centimeters thick and the ceilings are 3 meters high. For the decoration of the house, tiles were used, which were made at the enterprise of the Kharkov entrepreneur E. E. Bergenheim.
Nesterov's house is well preserved, but has lost its tallest tower, which in its appearance was similar to the Church of St. George in London. This happened after the revolution due to a violation of the ventilation of the building, after the basements of the house were filled up. Therefore, the building currently has only one three-story tower.
In Soviet times, the mansion housed a local sobering-up station and a special detention center, and on the second floor there were equipped cells with double bars. Today, Nesterov's house houses the regional directorate of the specialized installation and operation department "Resources-traffic light", and the former backyard stables are used as residential buildings in the private sector.
